I removed the fuel filter outer cup and replaced the filter. The cup was empty (trace fuel in the bottom). Should there be more fuel in the cup? If so and there is not, do I have a blockage in the hose from the tank to the fuel filter? Still working on the problem. Any sugestions?

Thanks

Hi Mark,
Assuming you have fuel in the tank... And the slim chance of the fuel line being plugged, it looks like an air leak in the suction side of the fuel or the suction of some air that requires the fuel system to be re-primed (no big deal, instructions are in the manual)

Starting IN the tank, follow the suction line all the way to the fuel pump looking for cuts/abrasions loose clamps etc..
I say start IN the tank because the fuel pick-up (suction) line is mounted to a brass fitting at the top of the tank...look to see if the tube is still attached to the brass fitting and still extends to nearly the bottom of the tank. If that tube (fuel pickup) has broken or fallen off it would suck air.

You haven't mentioned if any work was done to the tank or the lines were disconnected earlier and may have been re-installed wrong ...one is the fuel suction line and the other is the fuel return line. The fuel return line is the one that doesn't go to the bottom of the tank.

Let us know how it goes

Hi Mark,

I agree with everything SlackwaterJack is recommending and have this to add. The answer to your question is yes the filter bowl should have been full of fuel when you removed it. Because you mentioned in your earlier post on this subject that the fuel filter was supposed to have been changed by a local service center, it is possible that they failed to install the o-ring properly when the filter housing was screwed back onto the mount. If you don't find any potential air leaks in the fuel system between the fuel tank and the fuel filter (fuel pick up, lines, clamps etc.) it is possible that there was air leaking past the o-ring at the fuel filter itself. Or even if the o-ring was properly installed but the filter bowl wasn't properly tightened when they screwed it back onto the mount air could still leak past the o-ring or the threaded connection between the bowl and the mount. Just something else to consider.

Eric
