Subject: Fuel level readout flashes on and off

Ever since purchasing my 2019 R29 CB the fuel level readout on my 2nd chart plotter flashes on and off once the Chart plotter is powered ON. Once I press the arming engine ignition button (the top button) the flashing stops. I go through this dance every time I get ready to leave the dock.

I also have had this issue even when getting out on the water just a few minutes after leaving my slip; the fuel level readout starts flashing again. I also find this disturbing as if left in this way, the fuel level readout refuses to be updated as fuel is being consumed. Because of this, when out on the water and this on/off readout starts up, I have to turn the engine off and restart it as I did when at my slip getting ready to go out, to resolve this rather annoying issue. Also, I really do not like turning the engine off when I'm out on the water, in the event the engine fails to restart... my Idiosyncrasy I guess.

Do others encounter this issue ?

During my 2-day new boat overview with RT folk I was told this was just a Garmin issue/ting, and the method I've adopted ever since is what I was told to do by RT. So at least RT acknowledges this issue.

Fuel readout is a problem, unrelated to FM I believe.
On my R27 OB (2019), the fuel readout flashes until the engine ignition is on.
This tells me the CP gets the fuel info via the Yamaha network and is based on fuel flow. The tank sender seems to affect just the fuel bars on the Yamaha display unit.
I can live with that, but what is bothersome is that the generator fuel consumption is not reflected on the fuel remaining readout.
I just now thought about experimenting by anchoring overnight with genset running and the engine ignition on but engine not running to see if the genset fuel use appears.
Anyway, I digress. Your problem seems to be a network thing between your engine and the CP.
Have you tried starting the engine before turning the CP(s) on?

Jeff: Thanks for your response. 😀 I'll look into what you've advised.
