fueling R25

If you get to the Keys in Florida, stop at the Pilot House (ocean side or Hawk's Channel as they call it) on Key Largo for diesel. They have a small nozzle with a high speed pump which worked great to fuel my R25 without any adaptations. I was even able to pump at full speed. Listen, of course, for the glugging sound at your vent to know when to stop.

Stay over at Pilot House-its the only marina in the Keys with a #1 rating by Active Captain. When you pull in you may have three to four handlers meeting you on the dock, and they like to flemish the lines. Two great restaurants right on the dock, new floating concrete docks, 4 brand new bathrooms w showers for about 100 slips in a very protected little harbor. Our R25, Alto, now spends the winter on a rack (out of the water) at Pilot House which we rented with one week per month (on average) of dockage for about $400/month. We fly down to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale which takes about 3.5 hrs nonstop from Boston and then drive a rental car about an hour to the boat which is in the water waiting for us, and then have a late lunch in the near tropical weather.

It puzzles me why so many folks "lay up" their Rangers with winterization, shrink wrap, and only use them 4-6 months per year. The big advantage of any Ranger is it trailerability and Alto goes back and forth between Cape Cod in the summer to Florida in the winter. I use a professional hauler and I found storage for the trailer in the Keys for $15 a month. Where else you going to have a summer place in the Keys for $415/month?
