Subject: Full cockpit canvas/window enclosure for R-27/OB

I'm toying with the idea of having a full cockpit canvas/plexglass enclosure for my R-27/OB. At this time the cockpit Bimini is the stock RT canvas which is brown/tan color. Our hull color is the nautical looking Midnight Blue. I'm thinking of replacing the RT stock Bimini including adding a full cockpit enclosure with a canvas having a matching color to the hull.

I've had canvas work done before with King Marine Canvas in Seattle/Ballard and will be contacting them (Dave) to make some enquiries about having this done and what the cost might be. King Marine did a wonderful job for our 2016 R-21EC.

If any other R-27/OB owner has similar thoughts we might get together to see if Dave will provide a discount etc.

Barry,
We would be interested in a full cockpit canvas/window/screen enclosure for our 27OB. Please keep us posted on what you find out. We would be keeping OEM colors for the canvas so we would not need a new Bimini cover.

Jim: I’ll keep u posted. I’m talking with King today and I can wait to next year in March timeframe to have enclosure done which should work with your April delivery.

He just did one on the "Rusty Custis" out of Kingston. It looked great. I will see if Brian can share some photos online when he gets time.

Andrew: That must be the Brian @ Kingston with the Garmin VIRB XE camera setup for his new R-27/OB, right ? There's another fella in Kingston who has the R-23 and had King install a cockpit enclosure without windows just for keeping the cockpit dry as the boat is kept at Kingston Marina in an uncovered slip. He is very satisfied with it, so he told me and he showed me some photos of it.

As an aside, I was down at my boat today and if it had not been so late in the day I would have gone out because the Sun was out and there was no hint of a whisper in the air and the waters were dead calm. I'm wanting to run some performance runs when the time and weather is just right for making the runs. We have a number of days ahead with Sun out and if the wind holds back and the waters stay calm I'm going out to maybe mix in with the boats that always get out to do some fishing. We have a bunch of fishermen in our Marina and they are constantly coming and going all year round - weather permitting. I have an R-25SC just a boat or two from my slip and they were out yesterday in bad rainy cold weather. They seemed happy when docking but I didn't see a single fish onboard. 😱 The lady onboard said to me, it makes you appreciate the good weather days. 😉

Jim: I now have some good info for the full enclosure. I will share this with you via PM and/or Email with you.

There are now two style enclosures being developed for the 27OB. One that uses the existing Bimini and the back angles down to the transom. There is also one being developed that puts an extension on the existing Bimini and the back goes straight down to the transom. The first style should be installed on a boat about the end of January. The second style will be installed on my boat the end of April. Costs are still being finalized, but I think it is about a $500 difference between the two styles. Final costs will be known after the installs are done since these are first of a kind and patterns need to be made.
