First of all I would like to confess that I have had many embarrassing things happen in my boating adventures of 40 years. This comment is in response to the dumb things that I have done subject that has been making the rounds. Probably the worst was going through Deception Pass with calm seas inside and 40kn winds blowing on the outside from the West then running out of gas at the half way point and facing six foot waves after we passed through. I will not go any further as I will let your imagination go wild. I was with Andrew this afternoon and he bought our 13" Boston Whaler which he has been working on for the last several months. I was remembering an old adventure I had several years ago returning from a trip to Desolation Sound. We were gone about three weeks and my wife and I decided to leave our Monk boat at my sister's in Eagle Harbor. I also decided to bring our "stuff" from the boat home in our Boston Whaler through the locks to our home in Bothell (across Lake Washington). The weather was pretty rough with four foot seas crossing Puget Sound and 25kn winds. The boat was filled with sleeping bags, bags of food and clothing and all the typical stuff from a three week trip. Arriving at the locks I was wearing a parka and levis but was extremely wet and looked like I had experienced a rough crossing of the Pacific. There were some large boats ahead of my which I graciously allowed to enter the large locks ahead of me (80', 65', 42', etc). After we had all tied down the spectators started asking where all the boats had come from. The largest had been in Olympia for the weekend and had a good time (of course dressed in the best Seattle Yacht Club attire) , the next a 65' had been at Blake Island enjoying the walk around and the great food offered at the Salmon House. It finally came to me and one of the people asked my where I had been. I told them that I had just come form Homer, Alaska, you can probably imaging the sudden interest in a 13' whaler. I am sure that many others have good stories to tell like the time I was hit by a Canadian torpedo ( another story). Let the truth run unabated and we all share our bad experiences so we as well as others can learn from them. Sleep tight with a smile.
