Hi Tugnuts, I have just bought a 2012 21EC with 180 hours on the Yanmar after years of bigger alloy fishing boats. Both my wife and I are delighted! Time for more leisurely boating and the 21EC is perfect. Shallow draft, easy to tow and can sleep over. We live on the far south coast of Eastern Australia on a lake that has access to ocean with lots of neat places to visit in the boat nearby. The boat attached to my pickup fits in my large boat shed with a ramp to the water.
I am now in the process of understanding how every thing works. I will post another report after a few more hours and weekend sleep overs. I have fully serviced the engine (oils, filters, belts, impeller etc but changed main fuel filter to one with a see through glass bowl) and with the support of my local marine shop have successfully installed a Lowrance autopilot similar to SIMRAD but uses GPS instead of a flux compass and is operated through a new Lowrance HDS-7 Carbon as well as a remote that allows steering and autopilot while sitting in the back seat. First experience of autopilot is excellent. I sold the GARMIN GPS. Boat also has a large heavy duty anchor winch (Lone Star GX3) operated from within the cabin and a bow thruster. I have added two more batteries making four in total (start, spare start with its own ACR and isolation switch, and two deep cycle house batteries). Changed all lights to LEDs. Replaced anodes including on bow thruster and removed propeller to grease and clean up. Also added Bluetooth to the FUSION to stream music from my iPhone. Got a local person to cut and polish the gel coat and fix a few minor chips etc to bring it back to almost new.
Only other things I will do at this stage is replace the canvas on the Bimini since it has faded and worn in a few places, and add a Enerdrive e-Elite battery monitor that gives voltage, current, consumed amps and remaining battery capacity for both start and house systems. I will reupholster the passenger seat that has started cracking a little, not serious but enough to be annoying.
Only thing that does not work is the fuel gauge but I just look at the transparent tank. My experience is that fuel gauges are notoriously problematic so I am delighted I can check fuel by just looking at the tank!I like the idea from the forum for measuring how much is in the tank. All good. Filling is no problem. Experience to date for cruising and top speed is as reported in forum.
Suffice to say I love the excellent built quality of the 21EC, the great support from Ranger Tugs and this excellent forum. Thanks to everyone. Heaps of really useful information. I have downloaded the manual for the 21 and the electrical schematics including for fuses. I have read manuals on just about everything on the boat.
It took a little while to understand the operation of the JABSCO search light but now all good. What I can’t find is the fuse or board for the light? It is not on the fuse board in the cabinet next to the helm. The electrical schematic shows it as separate blk10 whereas everything on the main fuse panel above is blk16. Grateful for advice since I am anxious to know where all the fuses etc are located.
