Subject: Fusion radio's mobile phone in 2016 R-21EC

Hey...FYI... was at the Kent factory today taking photos of our new R-21EC being built. Andrew and I wanted to test using the Fusion radio's mobile phone tray to see if the Apple's iPhone 6+ size was accommodated. Good news... it was. The iPhone's lightening charge cable is used to connect to the radio's USB port. Very cool, and I was wondering about that for a while.

Proof below.... 😀

That's interesting Barry. Does the phone HAVE to be shut up inside the Fusion to be connected? Probably not...how are you going to call the dockside restaurant to make your supper reservations if your phone is inside the Fusion...sorry i've probably overthought it...

I'm looking forward to seeing pics of you and your new 21EC in the water in, what, another week or so?

I'll know more about the Fusion radio & iPhone capabilities later on. I must admit, I do like to listen to MY play lists especially when solo. 🙂

Well, I would just have to use my Apple Watch or 1st Mate's iPhone.

Congrats on new boat.

I installed this Fusion Bluetooth dongle adapter to my 700 head unit and it works great with any Bluetooth device (iPads, iPhones, whatever). The nice thing is that you can listen to your play lists and still have phone at the ready. it just seemed easier than using the docking adapters and usb cords, etc...

Very easy install - ground wire, power wire, and audio plugIns. Took 15 minutes.

Yes, I forgot to mention that the Fusion radio in my new R-21EC provides BT streaming as well. Just pair the phone with the radio's BT and one is all set. The one thing I'm not sure about is that I have an Apple Watch that needs to be paired to my iPhone to provide the watch with its full functionality. I'm hoping this aspect will not inhibit the iPhone from pairing with the Fusion radio's BT. It should work as I can have my Watch paired with my iPhone and also pair my watch at same time to my Beats headphones via BT and it all works seamlessly without issues. With the watch I can receive Messages, Email and phone calls.... meaning I'm not having to scramble for having access to my iPhone which isn't always on my person, but is always within some 30 to 50 feet of me. The watch allows me more hand control as I'm not having to 'hold' the phone.

I think the mobile phone tray is primarily for iPod-like devices. There's no CD/DVD player anymore in the radio.

I sure hope the tray isn't too small to accommodate my 8 Track tape collection.........

My cassettes did not fit, so your 8-track is probably a no-go. Too bad, lotsa good stuff on them...and high quality sound, too.

I hang on to my old iPhones when I upgrade or break the screen etc. They still work great as music players and wifi internet devices. On our boat I have an old iPhone 4 in the Fusion slot that just lives there permanently. It has all my playlists and can even play apple radio or pandora over the hotspot from the iPhone 6 in my pocket!
