We have a 2014 R31. Does anyone know what material is utilized for the galley countertops? I do not believe it is granite or a laminate. Is it a Corian? The First Mate would like a dish detergent dispenser installed and I will need to drill a hole for this.

Thank you in advance,

Al Sr.

In the newer R25 and R27 the "ground rock" pattern I was told is actually part of the gel coat and is over the standard fiberglass lay-up. If you look closely at the seam between the rock looking surface and the normal looking gel coat you will see that there really isn't a seam, just a color transition.

I have the same model. I believe it is some variety of solid surfacing, similar to Corian. I had a filter faucet installed for filtered tank water, and it was easy to drill, as I recall. It is not gelcoat.....

It's fiberglass with aggregate (?) put into the mold. Be careful cutting it, I suspect it'll chip easily, like any gel coat. One of the factory techs might be able to suggest a safe way to cut it. I drilled a hole for a filtered water spigot with no problem (I put a lot of blue masking tape down first).

It is just a finish on fiberglass. I would do as suggested, Tape up the location to be drilled. If making a large hole I would use a hole saw. Start slowly and cut through the surface and then proceed through.

Thank you all who responded! I will post an update of the project once completed.
