Galley tap adaptor for washdown.

Guys/Gals: Anyone out there, please......I own a 2009/2010 R21-EC. I wish to adapt and fit a freshwater wash-down hose to the galley sink tap. As you would know, the tap spout/outlet has a diffuser/aerator/filter device within the male screwed fitting, through which the water is discharged into the sink. I am thinking of sourcing some sort of adaptor, be it double male, male/female, or even with an instantaneous spigot at the outlet end, to which I would like to attach a small bore flexible hose for small wash-down/cleanup jobs. Does anyone know of suitable fittings for this purpose? I have just been to my local plumbing specialist, who advised me that the threads on the diffuser and inside the tap faucet body are probably NPT, rather than BSP (can anyone confirm the threads to be NPT? I have used a Vernier scale to measure the diameter of the fitting and it is around 20 - 21mm ID. A little over that for OD measurement of course. I realise I could always insert a T-piece in the internal flexible pipework, but that would also mean drilling holes in the internal GRP cabinet for hose passage and I just want to keep it simple. I would appreciate any advice and/or suggestions. Kind regards to all. Stevan

I assume you want to use your wash down in the cockpit? Why not install a "T" into your cold water supply and install a hose bib outside. Seems like that may be the simplest way to go.

Amazon has a variety of adapters that fit on the faucet- generally called "diverters"- as well as faucet to garden hose adapters. Funny, I was just thinking of hooking up a cockpit shower in this fashion, without cutting into existing lines.

Stevan, Install a male hose adapter on the sink faucet. Buy a regular kitchen sink sprayer kit, about 20 feet of tubing and a female hose adapter from the local hardware store. Use some stainless steel hose connectors and connect the female hose adapter to one end of the hose then connect the kitchen spray kit to the other end of the hose and you've got a shower and a wash down hose that will reach anywhere on the boat. It works great!

Have your considered the Camco adapter for unthreaded hose bibs, "The Water Bandit"? You can buy these at some Walmarts or CampingWorlds or you can order it from Amazon:

I used one of these when I had a motorhome for the rare case where the water supply did not have the standard water bib.

On my R21EC , I "T 'd" into the cold water supply line under the sink as noted in the previous post. I added a through cabin wall flush fitting that takes a quick release adapter that has garden hose thread on one end. I use a coiled style hose and leave it hooked up all the time but with the quick release style fitting it is easily removed if you prefer. I found photos of the modification on someone's photo gallery. Very easy to install and works great. Just make sure you install it far enough to the port side so that it doesn't interfere with the cabin door when it's in the fully opened position.
