Interesting thing happened on my Garmin 5212 today leaving Stuart Island. I powered the unit on by pushing down the power button on the unit for a few seconds. Instead of the usual slow startup I got a red “SYSTEM MISSING” warning in the screen under the Garmin logo. And nothing more.
After two shutdown and restarts with the same SYSTEM MISSING error I tried leaving the unit off for 10 minutes. Then started it, got the SYSTEM MISSING warning and waited. And waited. After a couple of minutes the warning message changed to HOLDING. After another few minutes the message changed to SYSTEM LOADING. Finally the normal main startup screen came up.
I think I triggered this by pushing down the power button for too long. I hadn’t done an update for over a year.
Read through the 5212 manual with no mention of this situation.
Has anyone else seen these warnings on their Chartplotter?

That’s the first I’ve heard of that particular anomaly. Before its software was updated to the latest version, my 5212 would occasionally not complete boot up after initial power-on. Turning it off and back on would always cure it.
