Garmin 5212 depth reading

Thanks so much for both of your responses. Our unit flashes all the time saying our depth is 10.9 feet. It only read accurately
in the slip. Since we are on the Cumberland River where depths change from 40 to 50 feet in the channel to as little as 3 feet out of the channel we really need an accurate reading. We don't have the hundreds of feet of depth; though that sounds really nice. We are going tonight to check the mineral oil in the transducer and will report on that when we see it.Thanks again...it's very reassuring to have advice from the Tugnuts!

I seem to have the right people here to ask a question relating to what is being discussed. When I have a single screen operating (such as the last pix above) on my 5212 I not only want the depth always shown but would really like to see the temp at all times. I realize I can always go into functions and set up any screen or screens I wish. On the right side I can then put in any parameters I wish. However, there are times when I just wish to see one big sonar screen but get nervous w/o the temperature reading displayed.

And Rick - are you still able to get a call to the number you lost in the drink?

What temperature are you referring to ? (Sea water temp, oil temp, coolant temp, etc)

Hi Liz and Bill,

I had the same problem. The factory even moved my transducer with no change. It ended up being a setting I apparently tweaked by accident, and was properly diagnosed by Andrew and easily fixed over the phone.....I have no idea what the setting was now (almost 2 years later). Maybe Andrew's memory is better than mine.

Whoops. That might help. I was referring to engine temp which usually runs about 192 and never over 193.

Thanks, Dave! We weren't able to get to the boat today but we are going to try three
things.1. Unplug and plug the unit back in. 2. Check the mineral oil in the transducer.
3. Call Andrew at the factory for help. I think one of these might work. Also it's great to know
that the factory is helpful as are the Tugnuts. Thank you!

Eureka! After much fiddling with the Garmin we now have accurate depth readings.
It seems as though the previous owner had set the sonar depth at 10 feet so we could only
get readings up to 9' 6". We changed the setting to 100 ' and now the depth readings are
accurate. Thanks everyone for all of your help!

I'm glad it's working! And with my memory now jogged, that was the setting I needed to adjust as well.

Dave
