I have a Garmin 5212 that I upgraded to version 7.8 a couple years ago. I still have the memory SD card.
My best friend recently bought a used R-25 which also has the 5212. Except his operating system is version 5.6 !

At the Garmin site I read that they are no longer supporting the 5212.
Is there any reason to believe that my SD card would not work to upgrade his device?

There are a couple things that need fixing on his system that I hope an upgrade would fix.
For example, his date is stuck on Oct 27th and jumps back to it no matter what. (I think the year is ~2012?)
The clock is also wrong.

Thanks

Regarding date/time- other folks with the same issue had to update the firmware in their GPS antenna to fix this issue. I think I remember reading one person had to install a newer GPS antenna as their old one couldn't be updated, and he had issues with connectors being different.

I recently updated our 5215 to version 7.8; upgrade went without a hitch. Like Caspers stated, this update is available for download on the Legacy software page.

Another train of thought.....If it works, don't fix it. The firmware update for the clock is different than the software update.

That's exactly what I'm worried about, knotflying.
He can get along without tide info or sunrise/sunset, but getting a reliable ETA is an issue.

Thanks
