Trying to set my RT’s air draft in my Garmin 8612, but cannot see how to do so. Also can’t find anything on the topic in the Garmin manual. I’m sure I’m missing something (or routing would have to be double-checked for every bridge!).

Would appreciate any advice/assistance here.

Dave,

I am not at my boat so do not have my Chartplotter in front of me, but as I recall the menu option is "vertical clearance" and it is set via "Autoguidance Path Configuration" or similar.

Hey Dave,

This is a setting that needs to be set in the auto guidance settings in the plotter. You have the ability to adjust distance from shore, depth and "bridge clearance". Do you have the auto guidance feature or standard autopilot, as that would be the only way to adjust the setting. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Thank you Kevin and Doug for your fast replies. I did find that Vertical Clearance setting deep in the menus, and reset it from Garmin’s 25’ setting to 19’ - the minimum for my boat. However, the auto pilot feature is still trying to send me under a 10’ bridge. This is apparently a problem for Garmin to help with and will call them today. Thanks again!

Update: Just off the phone with a Garmin service tech. This is a Garmin issue, not with my settings. My Vertical Clearance is set at 19 ft. in the Garmin 8616. Autopilot/Routing directed me under a 12 ft. bridge. Given the coordinates of the bridge, the service tech replicated the issue on his Garmin chart plotter.

Moral of the story (at least for me): when in doubt, double-check Garmin Autopilot/Routing with another chart plotter. I use Navionics, on an iPad mounted atop the helm.
