If you've upgraded your chartplotter to v33.30 or later and you have a Yamaha outboard, this applies to you.

My Garmin chartplotter (8612 XSV) says I've burned 100 gallons of gas and have only 50 gallons left! My Yamaha display shows that I've only burned 50 gallons. But at the fuel dock I could only put in 50 gallons of fuel.

What's going on!?!?!

Upgrading the chartplotter to 33.30 or later causes the fuel consumption to be doubled. Greg Guederian and I have been working with Garmin and Ranger Tug on identifiying this issue, acknowledging it's an issue and getting a committment that it's going to be fixed. Greg has a RT27-OB just like I do.

A Garmin field tech met up with Greg in Florida in November to collect some data off the chartplotter and noted the issue.

Good news!! Garmin has identified the bug in their software and says a fix should be out in the April/May (Spring) released of their software.

The issue is related to the 8612 XSV and the GPSMAP 1243XSV with a Yamaha engine. It's also not specific to Ranger Tugs as other boats (such as a Pursuit with twin F300's) have reported the same issue.
The Yamaha display reads accurate fuel consumed.

The error is off by exactly a factor of 2 on the Garmin. If it says you burned 100 gallons, you've only burned 50. GPH readings are correct on the Garmin. But trip fuel consumed is off by a factor of 2 which will leave you with an inaccurate fuel remaining value on your chartplotter. The Yamaha display will accurately tell you how many gallons of gas you've consumed.

Thanks guys, for working to get this sorted out.

Thank you for this update.

Has anyone installed it? I’m still running an old, pre bug, version and would be good to run all the updates as long as they’re not downdates.

I upgraded yesterday.

Then I ran the boat from Everett to La Conner at WOT, 32 knots the entire way.

The fuel consumption issue is resolved with v36.0.
