Garmin depth indication

We have a Garmin 7212 in a 2014 Ranger Tug. Recently the depth indication on the navigation chart has started to have an intermittent reading. It reads fine when we turn it on and are idling out of the marina. After a while when we are at approx 7.5 k cruising speed, the indication will flash a number, then later work properly, then flash a number, ......., then when we are returning to idling speed it will work correctly.

Anyone have any experience similar?

Any idea what is causing our problem?

The transducer, which is located under the black water tank on the starboard side may be loose or has disconnected. You can access it by pulling out the cooler in the seat. I hade the same issue. Mine detached from the hull and I had to re-glue it down.

Thank you for your help. What was your process? What did you use to clean the hull? What did you use to re-glue the transducer to the hull? I assume you can reach it without removing the black tank.

If your transducer is loose or disconnected from the hull, sand the hull to get all old sealant off and then use 3m 4200. It could also be that the liquid in the transducer has evaporated or leaked out. Mine had a pinched o-ring that over time led to evaporation.

I used silicone to re-glue it. Used sandpaper and alcohol to clean the area. Note that the transducer was suppose to be in a "holder" that contains oil or gylcol. Mine was just glued to the hull. I understand that others also found the transducer not in the housing but just glued to the hull.

There are at least two different types of transducers on Fluid Motion boats. One glues directly to the hull and one has a cup. if you do a search you'll find a gob of info--its a common problem area.

I have a 2015 R31 and my Garmin depth finder was having the same issue. I located my transducer glued to the hull at the stern of the boat on the starboard side. I opened it up and it was half full of multicolored liquid. I also noticed that fluid spilled around the transducer, so I checked and their was no seal. I bought a seal, emptied the old liquid, added antifreeze (it was my only option at the time), and put the lid back on. That was 2 months ago and my depth is now working perfect. I have the older Garmin setup (GPSMap 7215) if that is relevant to you.
