Garmin GC-12 camera

Anyone have any experience mounting and running the wiring for a Garmin GC-12 or similar marine camera? I'd like to mount one to the mast facing backward to enhance my view rearward when exiting and returning to the slip.

I mounted the GC-10 (reverse image) on our R-31CB as a backup camera and have been happy with it. I mounted it on a Ram mount on the aft portion of the hardtop to get a better close-up view. The Ram Mount makes it easy to position and aim and once set, it stays rock-solid. I happened to have a convenient rail to clamp it to. Wired the power cable to a switch at the helm.

I went the poor-boy way and installed a back up camera, less than $50 from Amazon, came with a 5 in monitor. I use it mostly to keep a eye on the kids and on the fishing pole in back of me on the starboard side. Seems to work great, was easy to install and you would not notice it if you didn't know what to look for. Have pictures in album. Bob

Installed a cheap auto rear view camera on my C28. Now that I know everything works, may upgrade the camera for better quality. Longest part of the task was taking down ceiling panels to route wire to the mast, then putting them back up. The hardest pull had a pre-staged messenger line - always pull another through so you have one next time. Used a spare switch by helm for camera power. Additional pictures in my album.

I have 3 on the boat. Engine Room, Looking Aft like a rearview, and looking down at the Swim Platform. Nice part with the GC-12 is that you don't need to buy a reversed model anymore. It is controlled in the ChartPlotter.

The tricky part with the GC12 is the dongle. It is only about 1ft long and has a splitter for video and power. Very difficult to pull in tight spaces!

You can mount it in any orientation. The installation guide does NOT specify any exclusions
