At spring start up my GARMIN 5215 and vhf 200 radio both indicated No GPS data. 2013 R29
I checked setup and figure the problem is a failed x17 antenna.
I removed it and took it to Raven Marine at Canoe Cove in Sidney B.C a helpful guy took it and hooked it up to a test plotter and determined it was faulty. So I asked to get a new one. He suggested that it was superseded by a x19 unit so I ordered one they told me it was a simple plug in replacement.
Having read some installation instructions on line it looks as if it might be much more difficult (resisters etc) because it's part of a NEMA 2000 network on the Ranger. And the 500 series plotters" may not be directly comparable" So the question is : is it a straightforward Plug in replacement to upgrade to a X 19 from a x17 GPS ANTENNA for a GARMIN 5215 system?
Or would I be better off trying to find a "new" X17?
I have not updated the software version on my plotter yet . It is showing a version of 2012 vintage. But working on the basis of " if it 'ain't broken don't fix it " and I don't like playing with things I cant actually see that make me swear, I've not attempted to,do that yet but understand that I may need to update to have the system accept the new updated antenna?
Any help welcome.

Update:.
After updating the plotter software the 19x was a direct plug in no complicated configuration needed.

I just had the same problem on my 2011 R27. The GPS 17x just stopped working. I replaced it with a new GPS 19x and it worked immediately. I used the existing GPS17x mount on the mast and the existing NMEA 2000 cable. The software was upgraded about 6 months ago per the Garmin instructions.
