I no longer get the AQUIRE TARGET option on the drop-down menu when I tap a radar target on my 7212 display. Until now when I tap a radar target on the screen, I see a menu option including "AQUIRE TARGET". I still get this menu appearance but the AQUIRE TARGET option is no longer listed. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? I still have good GPS satellite reception and good GPS heading input. Thanks!

Garmin radars require both "heading" and "GPS" for MARPA targeting to function.

Gps heading refers to COG (course over ground) and is not true vessel heading.

Vessel heading is managed by the autopilot heading sensor, course computer, or differential gps depending on the generation of the autopilot. So if your autopilot is not turned on or working correctly, then you will not have "acquire target" as available.

Very interesting; this may explain the problem as the auto pilot was not turned on when I noted the lack of acquired target functionality. In the past I have had the auto pilot engaged when I use this function. I will try this next time out and I appreciate very much your information and help.

Anytime.

The autopilot shouldn't need to be physically "engaged" but rather just turned on will be sufficient for the sensor to be utilized by the whole nmea2000 network for heading data.

I went to the boat yesterday and, turning on the auto pilot did fix the problem. With the auto pilot energized I had the option of AQUIRE TARGET. Thank you again for your help.
