What causes the Garmin GPSmap 7212 on my R25SC to chirp occaisionally? I cannot determine any rational reason,.

A chirping sound from a Garmin GPSMAP 7212 likely indicates an issue with the transducer or its connection to the sounder. It could be a problem with the transducer itself, a loose or corroded connection, or a compatibility issue between the transducer and the sounder.

Thank you!

Could also be the "Fish ID" chirping when it detected what it believes to be a fish below the vessel.

Would this happen even when sonar is off?

If by "sonar off" you mean utilizing a different page/application such as the radar or chart, then YES as the sounder is still operating just in the background.

If by "sonar off" you mean you have gone into the power menu and "disabled pings" then NO it wouldn't make any sounds as the transmission into the water has been disabled.

Got it. Thanks.

Fish was the answer. Confirmed w/ combination nautical chart and sonar screen. When fish showed up on sonar screen, unit chirped! Thanks for your help.
