Anybody know whether the most recent Garmin VCA501L Puget Sound - Dixon Entrance Chart shows the Rock Fish Conservation Areas (RCA's) and the Glass Sponge Reef Conservation Areas (West Coast Canadian water only)? I have an older version (2014) which does not show these areas so I use the $32/year Navionics App on my phone and Ipad which does have them but it would be very convenient to have these boundaries shown on the Garmin system. The chart update is $300 CAD. Even though Garmin owns Navionics the two systems do not link up with paying up. Other plotters (Raymarine etc etc) apparently can update this info free. I did manually put in some of these areas by using the boundary function but it is a tedious task.

I have the 2018 version and would be happy to check if I knew where to look. I also have Navionics. Let me know a specific location of a known conservation area to confirm on each and I will let you know what I see.

Awesome, thank you! An easy RCA to find is the Mayne Island North RCA which is right at the North end of Active Pass - which is between Mayne Island and Galiano Island. The RCA boundary is a red dashed line.

Shano,

Unfortunately, I cannot find it on Garmin VCA501L v2018.52 when running on my 7212 GPS Chartplotter. Interestingly, I do show US National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) [in the San Juans] that are not shown on my boating partner’s 2014 charts, so they did add that. No red outline of the Mayne Island North RCA though. I did find Mayne Island North RCA on Navionics and Garmin Active Captain.

Sorry!

Curt

Thanks for checkling your 2018 version out. I will get on Garmin chat on Monday and ask them.
