Any input on two topics. Winter 17-18 our radar went out. Just now getting around to addressing. After some diagnosing and support from Garmin they determined the radar unit is bad and must be replaced. Anyone else have a unit quit after only 3 seasons? No help from Garmin but in order to keep things complete we are installing a new unit. Any thoughts on the new Fantom radar vs the previous HD technology? I really hope either of these new units last more than 3 years. Thanks in advance for input

mines going on 7 years now.

I would always get the latest tech if replacing. lower power draw and new doppler features are nice

Our Garmin radar is going on 10 years with the only issue so far a bad connection plug - fixed for free even though out of warranty by Garmin techs at Rendezvous. I was told by Garmin to always have the mast up to keep water out of the radar unit. The only time mast is not up are the days spent trailering down the road. Radar works great!

We only trailer 2-3 times a year around 300-400 miles each time. My suspicion is it has something to do with water when the tower is stowed and going 65-70 mph. My Dad told me a boat was like standing in the shower and tearing up $$. Thanks

We trailer about 8-10 days a year covering 1,400 to 1,600 miles annually. I do my best to not trailer in the rain but it occasionally happens. So far that limited amount of time with the mast down has not been an issue for our radar.

Suggest you make sure that the ethernet type connectors on the dome are not corroded and/or missing. Over the years a number of people reported this problem. Ours had a bad o-ring and stopped working due to connector corrosion.
Easy to test after cleaning any corrosion.
Search garmin radar corrosion or garmin radar cable.

Thanks for input. Our Tech took the antenna off and tested on another unit in the end and it was dead. The new Fantom Tech sounds cool. We’ll see.
