Garmin Software Updates As of April 3, 2019

The Garmin 5212 in Our Journey rolled back to August, 1999.

Followed the link asm777 provided (THANKS asm777 !!!!) and downloaded the Garmin file.
Here's the directions for the update:
Installation Instructions
A maximum size 32GB SD card, formatted to FAT32, is needed for this update.
Please back up your user data before applying the update.
Click on 'Download' and choose to save the file to your computer.
Choose a location where you can easily find the file, such as the 'My Documents' folder or 'C:\'.
Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file.
Double-click on the downloaded file. This will automatically extract the files to C:\Garmin and run a program to transfer the software update to an SD card.
Power on the device and make sure all attached network devices are powered on as well.
Insert the card into the card slot of your primary device. Select 'Update Software' in the window that automatically displays. If you do not have a primary device with a card slot, please see your dealer.
After the update completes, all Garmin Marine Network devices and NMEA 2000 sensors will have the latest software. This ensures all of the devices will be able to communicate with each other.

Made sure that all NMEA 2000 devices (Chartplotter and Autopilot for me) were powered up. Inserted the updates software on the SD card and followed the screen instructions. Several auto restarts. Be patient. Software updated successfully and I'm back in April 2019!

Whole process took about 20 minutes.

There is an update for the GPS antenna that will correct the 1999 issue. All my tides were off and reading 1999. once updated all worked well.

I just tried the download and it would not run on my Mac.
Do I recall something about Garmin only supporting Windows?

Gotta fire up my old laptop?

I notice the update refers to “Legacy” GPSMAP devices.

I routinely update the software on our 2018 R31-S using Active Captain and I have assumed that that would update the info on the two 32Gb SD cards installed in the GPSMAP 7616xsv display.

What am I missing? Should I buy a third SD card in order to handle this update?

Thanks
Claus

Windows worked.
The memory card loaded into the GPS just fine.
It is now April 13, 2019

Thanks all.

Claus,
Since you have a 2018 boat I’d bet you are not impacted like those of us with pre-2010 boats were impacted. Just go to “Information” then “Tides” in your chart plotter menu and check the date to be sure. If it says 2019 you are good.
I had last updated my Garmin 5212 Chartplotter software in 2016 and that didn’t prevent the date rollback.
Yes, the software update for those impacted by the rollback should be an “empty” SD card formatted per the instructions. And yes, I used a Windows O/S PC to format, download and then extract the downloaded program to the SD card. Not sure if possible to do on Mac.

thanks for the instructions!
