We recently purchased a 2015 Cutwater 28 and live in FL. We love the new boat. Our longest cruise to date was 3 hours. When shutting down our Garmin 7212 touch screen at the end of the cruise it was very hot as were the other instruments. At that point we found the O/H fan switch and ran it briefly to help cool things down. It is very noisy. Has this item been upgraded to something quieter? Would a blower work in this application?

On our next short trip we monitored the touch screen temp. We were running the A/C but the screen still heated up. We turned on the fan which of course blasted hot air into the cabin at the nav station and makes the Captain hot but the heat has to go somewhere plus the fan is unpleasantly loud. Is there supposed to be cool air supply from the AC into this compartment?

We don't want to burn up our electronics. Is there something we are overlooking or should be doing? Have there been any modifications since 2015 in this area?

I tried to search Tugnuts for info on this but was unsuccessful.

Thank you for your assistance.

G2, we have the same model Garmin in our 2015 R-29. The screen has never gotten so hot that it doesn’t operate properly. You might add a 12-volt fan and aim it at the screen.

Btw, we’re nearby on a lift along Mirabay Blvd.

Hello,

You may want to make sure you have the correct software, other than that you may want to contact Garmin direct and see if there is any trouble shooting you can do. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

To cool my plotter, which is mounted on the dash on the 21ec, I mounted a 12 volt computer muffin fan on a piece of wood with a switch and velcroed it between the plotter and the window. It keeps the plotter cool when cruising. Connected the power to the fuse block at the 12 volt outlet fuse.

Thanks Gordon. Your are right the Garmin did operate OK. We may try a fan. Definitely want more experience before making changes. Happily, we are on a lift as well.

Thanks,[/We will reach out to Garmin. I noted that we don't have the most up to date software. Thank you.
