Just wondering for those who have two Garmin screens - how do you use them? is your chart on the port or starboard screen? do you use the other screen for vessel gauges? For depth? how do folks organize their screens?

I have an R29S. I love the two screen setup. Glad I got it. I use the "Favorites" feature to set up mine for various situations. For example, If I am in a shallow area, touch of a button and the stbd becomes full screen sonar....so the depth number is 2" tall and easy to read. For general cruising the port side is my primary nav screen.....and the stbd has radar .. I can also easily use the tides, or services screens while I still have the primary nav full size.

I typically set the vertical bar for the engine gauges.

With two screens, the options are endless. you can set it up anyway you like. the second MFD also has a separate GPS receiver, adding some redundancy.

I hope that helps.

I find thats a matter of personal preference. I have seen the setup in so many ways. It also depends on the weather.

If your running in fog you may want your radar setup differently. I would try different combinations and see what works best for you.

As others note, it is personal preference and it also varies according to where I'm going. Note that we don't fish, so this is purely for navigation and situational awareness.

Most commonly I keep the left screen in split-screen mode showing radar or sonar plus a zoomed-out longer range chart. That screen is for general orientation and collision avoidance. I also use it to check guages, etc, when needed. And to do routing for the automatic course line. It is quite possible to show 3 sections (e.g. chart, sonar, and guages) but I prefer the 2-panel layouts.

Then I keep the right hand display on a full screen chart, which is zoomed in to show local, finer detail for immediate navigation.

Overall we love the dual displays!

Another thing to consider is where to put the autopilot and engine screens relative to the 2 plotters? I’ve seen them mounted In the middle between two plotters and also mounted to the left. I’d be interested to hear what people’s preferences are?
