I've finally have gotten all our Garmin electronics registered. Except the VHF. Can't find the unit number or a serial number for it anywhere. Not in the software on the unit itself or on the chart plotter in the list of connected devices. Going to try again while in board today. Any one know where I should be looking?

I'll check mine today as well, and post back what I find. 🙂

Presumably -- If it's like registering all the other Garmin devices it should be that you login to your Garmin account and enter the ID for your Garmin 200 VHF radio and then the serial number pops up. Try this.

Use your 5212 to find the VHF's radio Unit ID.

If it doesnt show on the 5212 you will have to completely remove the radio. The number will be on the side of the radio. I recently had to replace the radio and Garmin needed the serial number. You will need to carefully pop the top and bottom trim plates off, they are the narrow pieces on the face of the radio. You will then have access to the four mounting screws, remove the screws and slowly pull the radio out.

I tried using my Unit ID to register my Garmin VHF 200 radio and the Garmin registration web site return an error with "The unit ID entered is invalid.". Bummer... So much for that idea...

Found it. It is registered in the device list on my chart plotter. The info straddled page 1 and 2 with the only the device name on page 1 and the software version and unit ID on page 2. I don't know if that's why I missed it or if I didn't have the VHF on when I wrote down unit numbers to take home. But the unfound is now found.

FYI for those trying to register their VHF 200 who haven't yet succeeded . . . (Barry, head's up -- this may work for you).

Get the unit ID number from the connected devices list on the chart plotter. It should begin with 1G9 and be followed by six other digits. Go to MyGarmin.com. Assuming you already have an account there, login and start the registration process. It defaults to asking for the unit ID. When you enter the 1G9 number, it is likely to tell you that the number you have is not a valid ID number (just as happened to Barry). Over to the right on the screen is a link for "Enter Serial Number." Click on that, put in the unit ID and it should take it. Turns out that the unit ID and serial number are one and the same. Worked for me (after a call to Garmin's customer support).

My head is bowed down to you Gini.... Brilliant sleuthing... I did as you described and hey presto my VHF 200 is now registered. Thanks. 🙂

Glad it worked for you Barry. Looks like we have this mystery resolved!
