Is there any way to set up the gps to alarm you if you’re anchor slips and your boat drifts on an overnight

I'm not sure, but I don't recall reading about that on Garmin. I loaded the Anchor Pro app to provide that capability.

There is. It’s on the alarms menu. Puts a green circle on the chart marking the boundary. Used it during a storm one evening.

Garmin has one that is very nice, overlays a circle on the chart and records your track. OTOH it also means that the chartplotter has to stay on and that uses significant battery power.

I mostly use the Anchor Pro app instead (if you have Android, consider plugging your phone into a USB overnight since it may require having the screen on while running -- not sure about iPhone).

The Garmin will pull about 20 watts in standby, and 30 watts when on. That'll draw about 12 amps over 8 hours.
It's best to run an anchor drag app on your phone and turn off the Garmin chart plotter.

Hi Martin,

What app (apple) would you recommend?

Ted

Thanks Martin

I second this recommendation. I use Anchor Pro and boy is it loud!!! Definitely gets your attention which is the point.

And if your phone battery goes low, it'll wake you up with that same loud alarm letting you know to plug in your phone. (the app can't work if the phone dies). It's a good safety measure but scared the heck out of me one morning when I learned this the hard way.
