Gas in oil ?

I have a 2019 Ranger 27 with a Yamaha 300 outboard with 80 hours on it and I went to the Yamaha place where they did the 20 hour oil change and I showed a photo of the dipstick it was about 3/4" higher then the top oil indicator they said that gas is getting in the oil and raising the level on the dipstick. Has anyone had this problem.

Hi Jim

Had the same issue on a Yamaha on another boat. Mine was with just over 40 hours on the engine and was attributed to me 'babying' the motor and not running it in at higher enough RPMs. Was told to treat the boat like I stole it to get the rings to bed in correctly. Problem went away next oil change. Google 'Yamaha making oil' and you will see a few posts/articles. May not be the only reason, but probably. Also the place where you had it serviced ... did they not provide any input?

I attended the Rendezvous last year and the Yamaha factory rep gave a talk on engine maintenance. He addressed this very issue and it is exactly as Jim said. Gas creeps into the engine oil while the engine is idling. I had this problem on a previous boat because I used the main engine instead of the kicker while trolling (very slow) for salmon. The Yamaha rep said that running the engine a maximum RPM periodically is best for the engine.

Thank you all the information yes they tell me the same info and said the engine temp should get up to 160 and it would only get to 140 they are going to put a new t stat in under warrantee and they said to get R P M up to 6000 rpm to burn off the gas in the oil once and while.
