On my R-27 I use straight regular 30 weight oil. I would check your manual to make sure you use the correct fluid.

I have a 2008 R-21ec with the 3YM30 yanmar engine and transmission. After much confusion from manuals and discussion with a local oil and distributor was told to use sae30 non-detergent oil in the gear box by a long time yanmar parts dealer.
I have changed the gear oil twice during regular maintenance and have not had any issues with this practice.

My 3YM30 with Kanzaki transmission calls for straight weight SAE 30. Definitely check your owners manual.
