I am still on the hard, with access to water and wonder if there's a way to test run my generator.

How can I provide a water supply to the engine?

What boat do you have?

Running the generator on the hard.

Remove the drain plug Bottom of the boat.

Remove the lid on the sea stainer.

close the thru hull seacock for the generator raw water pickup

Put a garden hose that is attached to fresh water, city , house or marina spigot into the strainer, when the water starts to overflow the strainer start the generator. when the generator is running monitor the water level in the strainer to make sure it doesn't run dry. It shouldn't there should be enough water flow to maintain the small raw water pump go a generator.

Another way to do it is make or buy a "fake Lake" I made a fake lake out of a Mercuiser flushing muff. I attach it the the grate of the thru hull scoop on the bottom of the boat. I took one half of the muff off and then bent the thin rod into a hook. I attach the hook to the grate and then pull the muff up tight to the bottom. I attach the hose to it turn the water on open the seacock start the engine confirm it is pumping and let it run.

Hello,

Brian is spot on with the above answer, they also make a fake-a-lake that you wedge under the boat and is adjustable, https://www.myinboardmarine.com/product ... IQQAvD_BwE. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
