Generator zinc?

We have a 2010 Ranger 29 with the 4000 watt Mase generator. If there is a zinc on it, it hasn't been changed for a long time. I've got a manual that shows a labeled spot on the heat exchange ( I think) and somebody from Ranger sent me a somewhat different picture showing a zinc. Both supposedly labeled.

As those of you who have a generator setup like ours know, there isn't a lot of room. I've taken the covers off and looked and poked without any luck. Next time I could bring a mirror but maybe just get a knowledgeable mechanic. In the meantime if anyone could tell me that I definitely have a zinc on the generator and where, in the simplest terms possible, it is; I would be deeply grateful

Yes it does. It is on the exchanger. Remove the top cover and both starboard covers and is then accessible. The zinc is a small pencil zinc. It threads into the back of the brass plug on the exchanger. You don't have to buy a new brass plug and zinc, just the zinc. Mine actually had a smal label beside it. They don't last long and are also short so they don't bottom out when you thread it in. You can check the depth available with a screw driver. I change my engine and generator zincs twice a year.

Good luck.

Thanks Scottfree, with the help of a mechanic we finally found it. It is barely visible. A mirror might have helped. Absolutely no zinc left but no obvious signs of corrosion. This is a reminder to me that I need to take ultimate responsibility for maintenance on my boat.
