I replaced the stuffing box flax with GFO packing which after adjustment is dripless ( I like a dry bilge) on my 2008 R25 with a yanmar 110 in it. I tested the boat and took readings of the stuffing box to see if it was overheating. The temp was 90 degrees which they say is ok. I was just wondering how long this packing will last before I have to replace it.

My rule of thumb for temperature has always been no more than 20 degrees higher that the ambient water temperature. I am not sure if a fixed temperature of 90 degrees is a correct data point. As far as how long should it last, I would ask the manufacturer. However, regardless of what you use, overtightening and misaligned shaft can affect life expectancy.
