I'm getting a notification of 'Searching for Autopilot Controller' on my GHC 10 controller. I read in the Garmin trouble shooting website on what actions should be taken and they involve checking a bunch of wiring (which would involve cutting a bunch of zip ties behind the console / bathroom mirror). Before I go that route I'm wondering if there isn't some experience with this - a place to go to first?

As a side note, earlier in the day and prior to getting into this state, while fishing with autopilot on, I got an alarm and a notice 'Low GHC Supply Voltage' which I acknowledged and when I did so, the system continued to function for roughly an hour.

Are these two things related and, if indeed, low supply voltage is the issue what's the best path forward? Any thoughts?

I have already tried a simple reset by totally unplugging the GHC unit (like when the remote stops working) - was hoping for 'simple' but no such luck. Also, roughly 4 months ago, I replaced the heading sensor to resolve a separate issue if that makes a difference.

Sincerely,
Jon Rider

I had a problem about a year ago that took significant trouble shooting.... basically it was not getting power. On my C30 there is a small yellow wire for the unit in the electrical cabinet that was not secured.

Mine has that problem but only in certain locations - in particular near Paris Island. After replacing antenna and cabling, reseating connectors, etc I gave up. Now use a smaller unit self-contained fishfinder with internal antenna as backup.

Weeks ago I posted some good links to a youtube of a pro talking about electronics trouble shooting.

Assuming things are wired correctly with sufficient gauge, etc., the next most likely issue is generally corrosion on a connection. My takeaway was that perhaps every other year or two a standard checklist item is to remove every connection, to everything, clean it and reattach snugly. There are sprays to clean, and sprays to coat to prevent corrosion.

If you decide to do that, you can avoid tracing everything. Just clean and snug everything, everywhere, at both ends. It seems high odds are the issue is solved. While heading off other gremlins before they arise.

And might just be quicker than diagnosing and tracing possibilities one at a time.

I have cured can not find AP controller by shutting off DC power for a minute and restarting everything.
