Gift ideas for new owner

On our 2023 R27 we made a Starboard insert that replaces the Kenyon electric grill. We put a Magma grill on the insert and use a separate propane tank.

The baitwell is used as a trash lazerette. Both Kenyon and Magma grills are stored in the center cockpit locker. The spare tank goes in propane locker.

I put retaining strips on one side of the Starboard insert to support the panel when flipped over as a cover. The strips keep the legs of the Magma from sliding.

Worked like a charm last Summer.
Hi,

This sounds like a great idea, as I much prefer to grill with a flame (and not worry about the elec. use w/o shorepower). If you wouldn't mind, any additional details/photos of your customized starboard lid and the model of the Magma grill, and tank setup/accessories that you chose would be most appreciated.

Thank you!

I will be down on the boat next week and will take some photos. We have a Magma Catalina classic grill. The grill’s foldout legs fit within fiddles on the Starboard insert. Anyway, “film ar eleven”, as they say!

Finally got to the boat to take pics of the grill insert on our 2023 R27 OB. The insert and fiddles were made from 1/2 inch Starboard.

Thank you very much for the advice and effort. I purchased the same grill, and had a similar starboard insert made. However, I still need to fabricate the fiddles. The photos are very helpful. First week with the boat so lots on the to-do list. Thx again.

If the pyrotechnic flares supplied with the boat are close to expiring, consider replacing with an electronic flare, which doesn’t expire (although batteries should be replaced yearly). Some models even come with 10 year lithium batteries, daytime distress signal flags, mounting brackets, and a combination of visible and infrared SOS flash patterns.
