Hi all,
My wife, Shannon, and I have been sailboat sailors for 30+ years and are considering getting a Cutwater 30 in the future and then have a good sailing dingy for when we get to our destinations. We're considering the Gig Harbor Boatworks Navigator 10' that will both row and sail.

What I'm wondering about is how and where to attach the dingy to the C30 when getting from point A to point B. I've been reading about how the RIBs can splash water onto the boat at speed and whether the davits would be a good location for storing the boat while traveling.

The other option would be to put it on top of the roof. Their Kevlar model only weighs ~65# but even that's going to be a lift. I read one thread here about a lifting mechanism for getting dingys up on the roof so I guess that could be one option.

If any of you have a Navigator 8-10 model on your Cutwater or Ranger, I'd like your impressions. Thanks.

Regarding the water spray with a RIB, I think that situation is particular to the factory RIB set up. The factory RIB has pontoons that extend beyond the RIB transom on the port side and the since the pontoons are not riged the RIB can bounce in rough water enough to catch the water curl coming off the transom of the Tug. With the addition of lifting straps we have been able to resolve this problem on our boat. With a riged hull you should not have this problem.

Hi Curt & Tracy,
Thanks for the reply. Putting it up on davits would certainly be easier and less work than on the roof top.

No problem. The Navigator 10 looks like a cool little sailer/tender!

I have an Achilles 270 rib mounted with weaver brackets, mounted
to the rib bottom, not the inflatable tube. I have no issues with spray.

Hi Kip, Thanks.

Yes it does. We just haven't had a chance to do a test sail yet. We live in Pismo Beach CA and have thought about getting one for lake and estuary sailing around here. We do have some good friends with a sailboat in Bremerton WA and they've promised to check it out this next spring when they get up to their boat for the summer.

We would normally consider getting a cruising sailboat (30-40') but the wind up in the PNW is so light in the summer that sailing to get from point A to B is a real challenge. We recently sold a place up on San Juan island that had a view of the water looking north into Deer Harbor in Orcas. Most of the time when we would see sailboats, they were motoring. We also had a wickedly fast F-31 trimaran up there but when the wind kicked up for good sailing, the open cockpit could get cold quickly when the boat's doing 15kts over 50 degree water.

Motoring in a sailboat is not our idea of a good time. So our thinking is to get a C30 and a rowing/sailing tender for when we get to where we're going. And the Navigator would let us get exercise rowing when the wind is non-existent.

We're planning on chartering a C30 this summer to see whether or not we might want to get one.
