I am trading up from aR27 to the 29CB. I would be curious to hear from anyone that has made that switch?

George,
Are you moving from a R27 Classic or R27 OB? If you’re more specific you might get better detail on the replies.

I would be interested in the replies to this post.

We have a 2019 R27-OB (Suzuki motors) where we cruise @ 4800-4950 rpm's doing 25-32 mph.

Two-footitis in both directions. A real bed and dinghy... these are truly the features of the R29(S) that have me willing to convert to a slowboat from the fastboat we currently enjoy.

We're ready to embrace the journey and anticipate the destination... and anticipate... and anticipate.

I had the R-27 classic and I am familiar with the 29. If you have the R-27 OB and speed is your preference check out the top sustainable speed and fuel consumption for the 29. If those numbers are acceptable then you will definitely be getting more boat. The next consideration is towing on land. Do you have at least a 3/4 ton diesel? Are you okay with the idea of having to get permits to travel and the time restrictions on the road?

We traded up from an R27 classic to an R29CB last year. Bottom line is we wouldn't look back. The boat feels a lot bigger and more stable (extra beam makes a big difference). Full bed is of course a bonus, although a rock hard mattress needs a topper to make it comfortable. Interestingly, the boat is a little slower than the r27 Classic. But we have the D4 260hp, not the larger 300 or 320. Comfortable cruise is around 12 knots, 3000 rpm and 10 g/hr. It will do this all day, and beyond although, like all diesel rangers, it is a bit light on engine compartment sound deadening (a bit of a design fault IMHO). Top speed around 16 knots. 140 gal fuel tank gives good range. Proper dinghy storage was a must for us, and from what I can see a real problem on the R27OB. We weren't really looking for a CB, and would have been happy with an S. But the CB became available first and it is great sitting up top. If you can justify the extra cost then go for it!
