Goodbye Wine Cooler C-288

1/2 birch ply frame, cherry veneer/vacuum pressed; Sheet PVC trash bin.

It looks good and functional too.

Very nice! Did you custom make that, or was it something you can assemble? BTW, I love your carpet, can I assume a local canvas/carpet guy made that for you custom?

I made the trash bin and pull-out, the 'base' and front fiberglass in not square from the factory.. so not straight forward. I had the cherry veneer lying about (from Rockler) and bonded it to marine plywood. The carpet came with the boat (2023 C-288) from the factory.

May I ask why you got rid of the wine cooler? I see the value of having the pull out garbage can which I miss not having and the fact that the wine cooler is something I don't value that much.

Lots of folks remove the wine coolers for multiple reasons. 1) They are energy hogs and do not cool the wine enough in warm conditions (the refrigerators are far more energy efficient and cool better). 2) We don't need anywhere near that much capacity for wine on the boat. 3) The space is much better used for multiple other things. These are just one of many items on the Fluid Motion boats that may look good in a boat show but are in my view a waste of money during manufacture and undesirable in the long run. They would be better on an option list so we could avoid having them if we didn't want them.

We only use it as a liquor cabinet - we aren't big drinkers anyway. I removed the ice machine in the cockpit... it is now the "tool shed"... love it.

we don't chill our wine (red's our flavor).. we keep water in a cooler, and having a trash bag in an odd place.. and did not need another power grabber on the hook!

I'd LOVE to do that to mine! Unfortunately, I'm not much of a cabinet maker. Do you hire out? 🙄

I hear you. I’m no good at it either, but I bought a premade teak door on Amazon and put it without issues. The Admiral had the cavernous space filled before I had a chance to worry about further enhancements. I think I got $35 for the like-new wine cooler at my yacht club’s swap meet.
