New boaters that we are, we're graduating from "just going for a ride" to actually going places. That's what boats are for, right? Since the first month we took delivery of Moondance, one of the first questions everyone asked was, "where have you gone?" Now that we've finally been a few places, we decided we needed a better way to share our experience with family and friends.

The result was a combination of flickr slide shows and a Google maps mash-up which lists where we've been, zooms in on the location on a map (and/or satellite picture), and allows for a description and links to the slide shows. Of course, the pictures could be hosted anywhere. I choose flickr for it's features and to avoid imposing storage and bandwidth demands on this site.

Google maps is a free feature. You just need a Google account. If you have a gmail address, or use their RSS reader, you already have one.

Here's our, "yes, we've actually been somewhere!" log: http://tr.im/moondancedestinations

p.s. the http://tr.im/ domain is one of a number of sites which shorten long URL's and allow you to customize them. Google maps URL's are extremely long and tend to break.

Great stuff Bruce. This has convinced me to follow your lead for documenting our LAXEY boat adventures. It was also great chatting with you over the phone about boating issues for close to one hour today. 🙂
