I had posted about problems with my unit on my 2011 R25SC. The screen just disappeared. It was there if you put your eyes against the screen, but the background adjustment seemed to be frozen.
The Garmin certified technician from my Ranger dealership tried to no avail. We sent it to Garmin.

After almost three weeks, Garmin said, "Could not duplicate issue. Replaced front case and rear case. Software is current. Unit passes all tests and is operating within normal limits." The Tech re-installed it. Charge from Garmin, $620.00.....

As I noted in a reply to your previous post on this subject:

"The symptoms you describe fit exactly with my 5212 problem on my previous R27. The cause in my case was a corroded connection at the radar dome. You can determine if this is your cause by unplugging the NMEA cable on the back of the 5212 that goes to the radar. If this is the cause then the 5212 will power up okay with full screen broghtness."

I had the same symptoms that you describe, and I sent the 5212 to Garmin for repair, and they sent it back with no problem found. Of course, they simply did a bench test, without the NMEA cable connected to a Radar unit that has corrosion. So, they found no problem. After receiving the 5212 back from Garmin, I re-installed it to find the same problem all over again. So, I started disconnecting cables to see what might be an issue. The minute I disconnected the NMEA cable to the Radar unit, everything worked okay with the 5212. Fortunately, in my case Garmin did not charge me. I was only out the cost of shipping the 5212 to them. They waived the testing charge and paid to have it shipped by overnight.

Have you tried disconnecting the NMEA cable on the back of the 5212 that goes to the Radar unit?

Thanks. I had followed your advice about bad cables. Checked everyone I could find. I do not have radar.
Hopefully mine will continue to run well. What upsets me is that I was told by the Garmin tech, that Garmin has a flat fee to look at a unit of $620. That just seems like highway robbery..."
