GPSMap 5215 Garmin G3 Maps

Has anyone loaded the new G3 maps onto their 5215 plotter? Curious if it runs well enough considering how old the processor is in the older 5215.

I've got one but haven't installed it yet. We are planning on getting Slipaway out for her maiden (to us) voyage next weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

I loaded the g3 map this morning. No issues loading. Because the 5215 is an older product, I can not see any of the contour lines that you would expect to see with Navionics. Yes, the plotter is compatible with the g3 upgrades. And according to Garmin tech support, the chart data is newer and contains a mix of Navionics and Garmin chart data. However, with the legacy plotters like the 5215, you will not see any of the contour lines. Disappointing to say the least.

I loaded my chip this weekend. I didn't have the G2 chip so this was all new to me. I don't have contour lines on the main nav screen but now I have Mariner's 3D and Fish 3D, and I can guide to points so I'm pretty happy with it. If you already have the G2 chip it's probably not worth it, but if you don't you may like it.

think I will pay for navionics on the ipad then and not upgrade the garmin from the G2 chip.
