Kismet arrived at Joe Wheeler's State Park Marina for AGLCA's fall great loop Rendezvous and before the event started there were 4 Ranger Tugs docked, a record # of Ranger Tugs at a Great Loop event.........it must be a sign of the future! In attendance besides Lisa and me on Kismet are Sanford on Adagio, Larry and Donna on Endeavor and Evan and Pookie on Pookie II. If you're thinking about doing the Great Loop these events are well worth attending.

Jim: I keep hearing about the "Great Loop".... I think I know something about it but now I'm wanting a more detailed picture of what it's all about. Do you have a Ref ?

Jim: Thanks.... 🙂

Looking at the Green, Red and Blue loops one has to be impressed with it all.

I may just have to plan for our boat being trailered out East sometime in the future to explore sections of the loop. We don't have a trailer but understand hiring a trailer company costs around $2/mile. Hmmm, that means PNW to Florida for example would be $6,000 one way. A used trailer might cost around $5,000 I suppose... but then I'd have to buy a suitable rig to haul the trailer + boat, plus the cost of fuel and lodgings to travel across country. At $4/gallon and a round trip of 6000 miles (assuming 12 mpg) runs to $2,000. Assuming 300 miles per day and overnight stays costing say $50/night, then add another $1,000.

I guess cost could be reduced some by having the boat trailered to the Blue loop in Missouri and launch off from there.

I guess another option would be to charter a Ranger boat on East coast... anyone done this ?

you may be able to save a little money by camping in the boat on the way. Maybe you could swap boats with someone on the east coast that wants to explore the PNW?

Ah, what price does one put on "The Experience of a Lifetime"?? 😉 One of the best accessories for boats our size is... the trailer. Our boat has been coast to coast to coast. To coast to coast. Summer in the PNW, winter in the Florida Keys, another summer on the Erie Canal, Hudson River, and Trent-Severn Waterway. Two more summers in the PNW. Mountain Lakes across the western US. Lots of time on the Gulf Coast.

We all use our boats differently. We are about 300 miles from home, over 6,000 miles on the trailer since we left Texas in early May. A few days shy of 6 months out this trip. Our boat is not a Ranger Tug, but has a "similar" layout to your R-25. Your boat would be perfect for the Great Loop!

Best wishes,
Jim B.
