I would be interested in hearing from anyone that is doing or has done the great loop in a Ranger Tug. I have a Carver 406 and am looking to downsize to something I can manage by myself and the Tugs are very appealing. Thank you in advance.

Here's a link to John and Lauri Gray's blog which includes traveling part of the Great Loop in their 2008 R25: http://www.laurieann-ranger25.com/index.html The blog is filled with useful details about how to manage long (safe) voyages on a 25' Ranger with special attention to feline maintenance.

As I've said before, please mention any (external to TugNuts) blogs regarding trips, travel, etc. in your Rangers so we lurkers can follow your adventures.

There are Tugs doing portions of the Loop even as we speak... I am not specifically aware of which ones might have closed the loop...
I suspect there are many, like myself, who will not likely complete the loop in a sequence simply because it is so easy to throw the Tug back on the trailer on a whim and jump over to somewhere else that looks interesting, run home for the holidays, etc...
The Ranger Tugs are fine boats for doing the loop because of their fuel economy, comfort, and ease of trailering... There are many other boats that will do the loop just a well, but none that I know if that have ALL of the attributes that a Ranger Tug has in one package... Doing the loop is a state of mind, not a boat specific operation... Vessels from a powered open deck RIB to a proper Yacht have done it...
Come on in, the water is fine!

Toni and I are in New York for a week over the 4th of July after cruising over 1600 miles in our Ranger 27 from Florida. We did the Keys last winter, put the boat in storage, went home for X-mas and a new Granddaughter in April, then returned to do the ICW to our present location. I would recommend this trip to all who are able, we have had a wonderful time. We are not going to do the whole loop at this time, we are returning to the Northwest in Sept. and plan to cruise the Inside Passage to Alaska next year.

Love your new hood ornament.

Herb,

Yeah, I dropped the dinghy and paddled out a bit to get that picture. The current was about three mph and it was pretty choppy from all the ferries and tour boats, but I had to do it. No regrets.
