I recently purchased a Magma grill for the cockpit of my boat, but when I tried to mount the grill, I discovered the LeveLock Fish Rod Holder Mount would not work because the railing was in the way :x , and the Horizontal Round Rail Mount wouldn't work because the grill kept sliding vertically :x (Imagine trying to cook something, and the grill starts to rotate, spilling whatever you're cooking onto the deck, swim platform, or even the water 😱 ). This wouldn't be a problem if I was to mount it on the railing at one of the two stern corners, but at the corner of each railing is a bimini support pole.

The answer came from grillamount (http://www.grillamount.com <http://www.grillamount.com/> ). This grill mounting system actually allows you to mount your Magma grill off your railing and supports the mount with a leg that rests itself on the gunwale. All you have to do is place the support mount at your desired location, and then lock the grill in place.

If you decide to order one of these, please email the manufacture and advise him that you are a Ranger Tug owner. Since our railings sit 9.5 inches above the gunwale, an extension to the support leg must be added on.

I hope this idea is helpful.

Hello John and Tracy,

Thanks for the nice write up. The grill mount looks like a nifty devise. I would be interested in your reviews of the Magma grill itself. I looked at the round models online and the reviews were overall poor, complaints of uneven heating and "breakage" from poor construction/quality being the majority of the negative comments.

I hope some grill owners will weigh in. I'm debating which grill to buy - Magma or Dickinson - but was not aware from previous postings, of a mounting issue with either model.

That Grillamount looks pretty good. Although, I have the Magma and never had an issue with it swiveling. So far I have been happy with the performance other than those small gas bottles don't last too long.. I have the square one, not the round one.

As you can see from the pics we have the much larger "Catalina" model, so it's a little top heavy. So much so that when I tried to mount it with the "horizontal rail mounts", no matter how tight I tightened the mounts, the grill would still swivel. We haven't used this grill (yet), since most marinas won't let us use it while at a slip. However, I checked with local Magma owners and they were all pleased with this model. 😀

I have the 16" round Magma grill mounted by clamping to the rail. I have had no issues.

I have the Magma Catalina grill also. It is mounted on the stern rail with a magma rail mount. I have not had any issues with the grill moving at all.

And since my last name is Mount and I like to Grill, I have to chime in that I have the large, round party-size Magma Grill with the round rail Mount (there you go!), and I attach it to the swim step railing with no issues. Cruised for 2 weeks with this sticking out (with a cover), including two Georgia Strait rough crossings. Not sure what the problem is.
