Has your anchor/chain and rode as supplied from factory been sufficient for your use? If not what changes have you made?

Different anchor?
Heavier anchor?
More chain - Less chain?
Type of chain
Secondary anchor?
Accessories? snubbers, swivels, stoppers...

Boat is in Southern California -

This is not boat specific - Heavier / bigger boats will need to scale up as necessary

thanks

Different anchor. There is a guy on U-tube S.V. Panope who has tested/evaluated well over 100 anchors. He doesn't rate Lewmar Claws very high. I've struggled whether to go with all chain but decided not to. I read somewhere that your chain should be at least 100% of the length of your boat so 50 ft would seem to be sufficient.

Rocna 15kg (33#) anchor
100' chain + 200' rode
Mantus anchor bridle

The Rocna has been great in PNW, and I like the extra chain, which we got just in case of deep anchorages to make sure there is plenty on the bottom (a west coast concern). IMHO a better anchor is a must-have for any substantial usage, at least here.

The Mantus bridle is nice but TBH also overkill and a slight pain. Just using bridle from two bow lines is simpler.

The factory anchor could serve as backup if we ever need to carry it. Better and easier to store would be a collapsible Mantus anchor.

Did you have to make any modifications to your C30 to fit the Rocna 33#? Thanks.

We have used a Rocna for 15 years on 4 boats. On the RT’s we take the standard anchor off and use it as a spare or for those times we’ve had to use a stern anchor along with bow. We then mount the Rocna with the standard rode chain and line that comes with the boat.

Rocna 15 fits perfectly on our 2019 C30 with no modification needed. Have heard the same from others.

A minor issue is how to tie it off and relieve strain on the windless. There is very little room between the anchor shaft and the cleat in front of the windless. What I've done is to use a small line (the Mantus anchor snubber, as opposed to the large bridle) and clip it onto the buoy hole on the anchor, then up under the pulpit and tied onto the cleat. Some other small line on the chain or anchor could work just as well.

We went with a Rocna10. A little more weight and a better bite for the PNW.
I added a Mantus Anchor Guard to the bow roller.
I also picked up a Mantus snubber and bridle to attach to the rode.
I marked the chain at the halfway point. (50' chain). Then marked the rode every 30' (5 fathoms) with line whipping. (200' 8plait).

Anchor, Line, and Chain; All good for dockside chit chat. You set your anchor and cross your fingers, toes, and brains. Magic, no brainer, Houdinism (from the magician) all work in concert for the RT and Cut family. Experience is the best teacher, as anchoring is, I believe, an art with science infused in the anchor, line, and chain.
I can't argue with myself for choosing a heavy anchor, 35lb Manson Supreme, Mantus swivel, 100 feet 5/16 chain", and 200 feet of 8 plait line. They have served me well, from anchoring in 50 feet of water in Alaska, in the Bahamas' sand ,grass and coral, the slimy clay in Maine and the gravel in the Tennessee River. Plunk your anchor, pop the top on your favorite beverage and enjoy the sunset from a stationary point of view. 😎

One of our first purchases for our R27 was a Rocna 15. It doubled the weight but increased our confidence level immeasurably. The claw will be a good spare and stern anchor should we need one.

Ground tackle, religion and politics can create a lot of discussion. Where you are anchoring is important. I see you are in Texas. Will you be around there, the east coast or the PNW. If you are in Texas then 30 feet to 50 feet of chain is plenty. Eight plait line is recommended since our lockers are shallow and eight plait will lay down better. A Rocna or Manson Supreme 15 pounds or better and I would recommend a Mantus swivel.

We have a 2015 R-27 and upgraded to a Rocna 15 after we purchased the boat. We use 50 feet of chain and 200 feet of 3 strand nylon. Never have had a problem here in the PNW. The Rocna fits perfectly on the bow roller.

For our R25sc we upgraded to a Rocna 15kg anchor and a pre-made Titan Anchor Rode consisting of 50ft of 5/16" G4 chain and 250ft of 5/8" 8-plait nylon rope. No modifications necessary and it has worked very well for us. The boat actually came with a Rocna 10 from the PO, so that anchor and rode sits packed under the forward cushion of the v-berth as a spare.
