Subject: Hailer added to my R-21EC
Using a STANDARD 220SW 5 Inch ROUND LOUD HAILER - PA HORN I bought from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K2MFMY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages01) it was installed without issues. I mounted it to one side of the searchlight and such that it did not interfere with the SS line when the mast is raised or lowered. I did have to drill 3 small holes in the cabin roof for the self tapping screws to hold the hailer and another smaller hole to run the wire lead through to the Garmin VHF 200 radio immediately below inside the cabin. Everything was properly sealed to keep any errant water out. After allowing the Hailer installation to rest for 2 days I then used hose water to ensure no leaking.... and none was evident. 😀
The Hailer works very well and I can now bark out commends/requests to my dock aids as well as my 1st Mate in the cockpit maybe.
As an aside, this Hailer also allows receive as well as transmit so I can hear sounds/voices from outside via the radio when being shouted at.
Also, another Tugnut who also has installed this Hailer complains about the transmitted sounds when his R-25's engine is running. I will be interested to know if this same problem/issue is apparent for my R-21EC.
