hard start

If you go to my first post you will see that I'm looking at this boat. I have'ntt bought it yet. tomorrow is the survey and sea trial. The boat was unused for a while when the broker started it up for me. This is when we found we had to give it three tries. The battery charger was plugged in and it seemed to turn over well. I know this doesnt mean a lot about the condition of the batteries. The service records I received look good but of course don't mention anything about the batteries. Thanks again guys you have given me a lot to go by.

There's a manual pump the engine mounted fuel filter on port side of the engine. Just a button on top of the filter housing. Pump it a few times before starting. If you do that along with the battery parallel it should fire right off if all is well with the engine. It's not a "cold natured" engine as evidenced by the lack of glow plugs in the design. After working through the initial starting issues per above I can't recall a failed start in ten years. Even during spring commissioning every year. In fairness for first start every spring I do run a space heater in the engine space for a few hours. I also change the oil in spring and warm the oil up to probably 100-120 degrees before pouring it in the engine. But the rest of the season the engine is routinely started with ambient temps around 45-55F.
