I designed the top and had it built in Laconner Washington at Boaters Discount. They build the majority of the aftermarket hardtops for Bayliner in the PNW.
Their workmanship is excellent. The top will support 600# lbs demonstrated by the two gentlemen that built and installed it by standing on it (they both weighed in at 300#).
The top weighs in at just under 300# and is cored with Marine Plywood. Gelcoat can be matched to your vessel. We were lucky as the factory had 2 gallons left from the build of our boat so we got a perfect match.
Cost was just under $10,000 as they had to build a temporary mold that was destroyed when they removed it from the top. In the event you could get nine others to order and place a deposit on a top, your cost would be HALF! At that point they would build a permanent mold.
The stainless steel dinghy rack and side rails came from Bolton Stainless in BC. They build all of the stainless for Ranger.
The stainless stairs on the hard top were part of the purchase price of the top.
We are currently getting estimates as to the cost of enclosing the cockpit now. It appears this will run in the neighborhood of $3,200 since we have elected to use the stiffer "plastic" for the windows. This "plastic" will not roll or wrinkle. The side as well as the stern entry points will swing in and attach to the hardtop when open. When removed and stored, they will have to be stored flat or hung. We are meeting with Dave from King Marine Canvas next week to review the final design.
If you are planning to purchase a new boat, the top could be built and installed prior to shipping.
