There is a bit of hatch discussion in the post concerning fans:

Rather than expand that here is another thread which concerned that:

The hatches on our R21-EC were gasketed instead of caulked. That would have worked fine except that the installation was such that some of the fasteners were loose, some were so put in so tight that they went completely through the plastic frame and were holding nothing, and the design of the hatch was such that several of the screws were countersunk so far that salt water pooled in the countersink and ate the screws. Surely not my favorite brand of hatches.
There was no danger of core destruction from the resultant leaks since the overhead has no coring which is damaged by water. However, anything under the hatches did get wet in heavy rain, particularly if accompanied by heavy wind.
