Looking to see what people think is a normal cost to put their boat in the water off the trailer and then to reload it on the trailer. This would be from a fork truck lift or a travel lift. I’m sure it depends on the location, but what has been your experience?

I recently had to have my boat moved from its trailer to a ground stand to have the bottom inspected. The marina charged me $150.00 for this service. Once the bottom was inspected the marina launched the boat back in the water at no charge. I moved the boat to a boat launch to put it back on the trailer.

I just had my R29S pulled out on its trailer for detailing, then returned to the water at a local marina. We own the trailer but don’t have a tow vehicle any longer with which to pull it, so marina just hooked it up to a bobcat and pulled it/returned it to the water. Cost was $100. They charge $450 to lift it out with a travel lift and place on stands.

Recently we had our R25OB travel lifted out of the water, blocked and supported with stands for a bottom job in Florida. After complete the boat was lifted and launched, total costs $300.00. In Anacortes Washington, at the City Marina Cap Sante you can buy a round trip lift, launch and retrieve for around $150.00. This was for an R29S we had. I’ve heard of people paying much more but not much less then Anacortes.

Perry,
Are you still on the 'other coast'?

When I had the R27 shipped down from RT a local harbor in San Rafael charged me $500.00 just to pick her up off the flatbed and drop her in the water. That was with a travel lift, and no return out of the water...

When I had the engine serviced in Sausalito they charged $250.00 to pull and drop her back in using their boat trailer.

Cheers,
John

Sweet water Landing Ft Myers. Nice equipment, Fork truck lifted then set on a cradle to set the slings up to set the boat on the trailer. $8 foot no minimum size 208.00 4/21. They were quick and professional. We also had the boat lifted at Saunders Nice yard big boats, in Orange beach. 13.00 a foot with a minimum of 30' this was a travel lift used to set the boat on the trailer 390.00 11/20. Sweetwater Landing has a Ranger/Cutwater dealer working at an office there. Edgewater yacht sales.

BB,
We had our boat put in at sweet water 12/12/2021 it was $10/ ft measure by our overall length of 33ft. I was surprised to find when I got back it was another $10/ft to put it back on the trailer. I spent $660 for a round trip on and off the trailer.

GypsyMoth,
We are trailering west now. We will be in Austin visiting our daughter and family for the next coup,e of days. We are hoping to be back on the west coast by this weekend.

What we found in Florida is things related to boating are about twice the price as the PNW.

I guess we got lucky or they changed pricing between April and December. $8.00 to $10.00 seems to be the average at least east coast and midwest. We did 3 short hauls last summer while in search for our next boat. The short haul consisted of lift, quick power wash if needed, and a launch. We had each boat in the slings for about an hour for survey inspections. All lifts were based on model size not over all length. Lift locations were Annapolis Maryland, Merit Island Florida,( travel lift ) Port Washington Wisconsin (Hydraulic trailer).

The marina where my boat is stored this winter (Illinois) is $10.00 in/out + stands and blocking rental + plus building space measured by the square foot = 3500.00 for inside heated (October to June). I checked pricing in the event we ran the boat to Florida and I stored it there in the Summer to do work on it. I was quoted Summer storage 1100.00 a month + lift+stands and I could not work on the boat while in storage.( facility east of Ft Meyer.) (June to November) Over 7K (Same boat). Our 30' slip in Racine Wisconsin April 1 to October 31 is 2300.00 . This year we would change slips to a 35' which is 2700.00. (386.00 Mo). The cheapest we found in Florida was 510.00 Mo with a year contract. Yes, Florida is a bit pricy not only compared to the PNW but to the Midwest.

BB, thanks for the reply. We pay $360/month for our 35 “ slip at home. My real intent was to understand what costs I might expect in different parts of the country. When I was told there was a haul out fee when getting back I was surprised. I expected that $10/ ft would get me in and out-not a one way ticket. Lessons learned in boating-ask first. Next trip, I’ll do a little more research up front.

If you had your own truck & trailer, why not just launch it your self?

Finding a place where you can launch yourself and store for longer then a month are hard to find.

Obviously the cost for hauling out of the water and back into the water is a variable from one marina to the next. Before doing this it's best to get quotes ahead of time, and setup an appointment with the marina.

From my experience, the weight of the boat will influence the cost. For example at my marina there are two lifts: one capable for hauling out no more than 10,000 lbs, and the other (a travel lift) for hauling out much heavier boats. The cost difference is huge.

My marina also has a haul out facility the uses a huge fork lift machine suitable for boats like the R23/OB and R25/OB. It's used primarily for storing the boats on dry stacks and retrieving them to place back in the water.
