Just signed up to belong to your wonderful forum. Wife and I have a get-away place in Seabridge (Channel Island) Marina. We were fortunate to snag a 30 foot dock, and have our lake boat (on a lift) berthed there. While cruising the marina, we spotted a Ranger Tug, which got the wheels going. Have not been aboard one, but have looked at the manufacture's website, and have been reading posts on this website.

Now, wouldn't a R29 (were allowed 3 foot beyond our dock space) fit well in our new slip! 😀

Couple of quick questions: Any member have their Tug at Channel Island Marina and willing to share info? And does anyone know if there will be any Tugs at this weekends boat show at this marina?

Thanks, this sure seems like a great group.

Heck yes! 🙂

Eric,
Catalina Yacht Sales in Ventura is a dealer. Their address is:

Catalina Yacht Anchorage
1101 Spinnaker Dr
Ventura, CA 93001-4345

http://www.catalinayachtsales.com

This dealer is a better dealer though:

Farallone Yacht Sales
2801 W. Coast Hwy, Suite 270
Newport Beach, CA 92663

Good luck on your quest!

Thanks! I know they did have a couple of at Catalina, but have not seen any there for a few weeks. Have to take the time and keep looking. Have to talk the Boss into spending that kinda of dough (big jump to the 29 from the 25 or even the 27).

If you have the time, come to Bremerton in Sept. Great opportunity to see a lot of tugs and talk to a lot of tug owners. I understand there is a hotel nearby for those coming "by land."

The Catalina dealer in Ventura does not have a 29 to the best of my knowledge.

I will have my Ranger 29 (Spirit of Gratitude) out there in Channel Islands this fall. You are welcome to come on board and check her out. We will even take you out on a sea trial so you can see how well she performs.
All I can say is if you bring your wife be prepaid for her to fall in love with the boat. It was my wife that said to me a year ago, Honey, why the hell wait, We got to do this now. That was music to my ears and now we are having the time of our lives on our boat. We have the trailer for it and will be taking her to many places. We live in Colorado and have it here for now but as I said, we will be out in channel islands harbor sometime this October and we will leave it there for several months before going to Mexico in the early spring.
I grew up boating around the channel islands. I lived on a trawler on B dock right in front of the lobster trap restaurant as a kid. This was 35 years ago and I still think it is a great place to boat and look forward to getting there every fall.

If you go to this webcam site http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/avalon/webcam2.php Then click on the tuna club under zoom points on the right side of the page you will see a ranger 29 sitting in avalon in catalina. You may need to look first thing in the morning because it is getting dark right now. He will not be there long for he is heading back to the mainland tomorrow sometime.
If you send me a PM I will give you my contact info so we can hook up this fall if you want.

Best to ya,
Stuart Royston..... Spirit of Gratitude 😀

Hi Spirit !

You are right about the wife. We first saw the R 29 at the Newport (RI) Boat Show in sept 09.
We didn't go to the show with the intention of buying a boat, just to look at stuff and make a nice weekend out of it.
Well somehow we wound up on the R 29 and my wife said " we have got to have this boat".
The rest as they say is history.

Eric - My wife & I keep our R-21EC "Kamalani" in Ventura Harbor, however, we are in and out of Channel Is. regularly since our son keeps his sailboat there. Also we enjoy the trip back into Seabridge, and will often tie up at the public dock for lunch.

We purchased "Kamalani" from Bob & Nik at Catalina Yachts, who also have a facility in Channel Is. Harbor. This is probably where you spotted the R-25 at their dock. Our experience with them as dealers was exceptional, and we continue to have a good ongoing relationship with them. We would highly recommend them to you, and it is great to have a reliable contact in your home port.

Hope you do end up becomming Ranger Tug owners soon. We will watch for you on the water.

Alex & Sherry, "Kamalani"

Reminds me of an old story. There was a contest: "What was the nicest thing your wife ever said to you?"

Many submissions, and the winner was "Honey, I don't think your boat is big enough."

My wife's comments was: "We need a bigger boat". 😀 I had a company build us a boat that had gone out of production a couple of years before.

My wife isn't a sailor, nor is she a boater of any kind. She sailed on that boat twice! I wound up selling it (and financing the buyer) several years later. He "gave" 😱 it back to me. I sold it again! Made several thousand dollars on that boat. 😀

My wife was pleased!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement! Did not get to the boat show, so have no idea if there were any Ranger Tugs there. My wife owns and operates a busy equestrian center and riding school so the weekends are busy for us.

Special thanks to Stuart and my other "neighbors" we look forward to meeting with you; we have a lot to learn.

Thanks again (now back to work before it gets too hot!)

Eric
