We’ve got a stinker situation going on here. My suspicion is that the vent is probably plugged somewhere. Does any no one know how to access the vent at the holding tank on an R 31? I’ve got an eye on the hose where it meets the through hole and that is too far to reach.
Thanks,
Bobby

I don’t know how similar they are, but my Cutwater has an access port under the bed aft. I used the access to add a charcoal filter.

Just cleaned out the cave and pulled out the mattress. There is a board with screws that I can remove but that will only give me access to the port side chine, not the waste tank.

Anyone have success getting to the waste tank vent on an R31? I also tried to get to the vent line that goes through the hull with no success. I remove the draws in the galley and my short arms need another 18 inches to reach the tube.

All ideas are welcome.

Thanks,
Bobby

To install a vent filter in our R-31, I removed the fridge under the helm- total PITA with the size of the fridge and the space you have to store it while you get to the waste tank vent hose. If you have a small platform about the same height as the base of the fridge, that might help (just thinking of this now), otherwise, make sure your floor is well covered in a protective matt.
BTW, the vent filter is a good way to remove the odors which emanate with every flush.

Like Rob said, removing the fridge is the way to go. Definitely protect the floor. I found it easier to take the door off. Remove top bolt on left and pick up. This gives more room to slide the fridge forward toward the v- berth. Depending on how large or small you are will determine how much room you will have to work with. Good Luck

We also have an R-31CB and have been experiencing the dreaded odor plume with head flushes. I have thought about installing a vent filter like the “Big Orange.” Rob, you said you pulled your fridge to get at the vent hose. I pulled our fridge once to do some wiring. It is doable but not a fun job.

I wouldn’t mind doing this once again to install a filter - BUT - I don’t want to have to do it every time the charcoal medium needs to be changed out. I believe you’re supposed to change that out at least once a year, or whenever your nose tells you it’s time. And immediately if the tank is somehow overfilled (God forbid). So I am wondering if you (or anyone else who has done this on this model boat) have found a way to mount the filter where it is more convenient to change the activated charcoal when needed. Thanks.
